Ghana - Savannah Agriculture Value Chain Development Project (SADEP)

At least 50,000 beneficiaries are expected to participate in the activities of this operation. A key feature of this project is support to “value chain actors” to ensure an integrated production-processing-marketing ecosystem. Target districts were selected for the commercial production of rice, maize and soybean based on the presence of critical mass of commercial farmers with appreciable land size with tenure security, and presence of agriculture mechanization services centre or its equivalent.

Ghana - Incentive-Based Risk-Sharing System for Agricultural Lending Project (GIRSAL)

The Ghana Incentive-Based Risk-Sharing System for Agricultural Lending Project (GIRSAL) is designed within the context of Ghana’s ongoing agricultural transformation including the Ghana Shared Growth and Development Agenda II” (GSGDA II). The Project will enhance agriculture financing and sector transformation through increased capital inflows into critical value chains. Indeed, the role of GIRSAL is to help accelerate financing and interconnectedness of the agriculture sector to ensure that across its key components, it is functioning at optimal levels. The project is structured to support agriculture across the nation and views its national footprint as critical to providing support for Ghana’s balance of payments, macroeconomic stability, economic growth, food and nutrition security, job creation and poverty reduction. GIRSAL’s catalytic role in mobilizing private sector financing for agriculture will be critical to the success of emerging Government of Ghana initiatives such as the One District One Factory (1D1F) initiative. The initiative promotes agro-industrialization that will provide massive employment and wealth through value addition activities. The Project will have two

Ghana - Agri-Based Rural Enterprises Project

The Agri-based Rural Enterprises Project (AB-REP) aims to contribute to the reduction of rural poverty by focusing its support on small-scale rural entrepreneurs. It's conceived because of the need to support a wide range of activities and economic operators in the rural world, in order to produce a significant impact on the poverty in rural areas. The project should provide a strategic combination of relevant services accompanied by local institutional capacity building, for sustainable Small Scale Enterprises (SSE) development, using a client demand-driven and cost-sharing approach. It should generate additional incomes through new jobs, strengthen existing ones and diversify present income-generating activities so as to increase income for an estimated 90 000 wage jobs and 40 000 SSE operations (self employed). The project comprises four components, namely: (i) technology transfer and skills development, (ii) rural finance access, (iii) rural enterprise institutions and (iv) project co-ordination.

RS! Global Linking & Learning REC WAF

The core underlying principle of the learning agenda is to identify solutions that can bring about systemic change across the supply chains where we work, looking at the roles that the private sector, the public sector and civic society need to play to generate impact on core strategic areas of Decent Work, Climate & Natural Resource Management, Fair Value Distribution and Sustainable Consumption. Five thematic learning teams, each with a thematic learning and innovation plan, agenda, and sufficient resources conduct research, gather evidence from the field, engage with experts from several local members of the RSC and partners, and learn together around the core issues in relation to the above themes in the value chain.

Acting Now for Food Security and Resilient Food Systems - Ghana

In this programme in Ghana, we support farmers from the Eastern, Ashanti, Ahafo, Northern Regions and Greater Accra region to produce more and better maize, rice and vegetables. We support them with better agricultural practices, better market connectivity, improved storage and food distribution systems and training in post-harvest management practices. We expect this to support production levels, reduce losses and enhance income from farming. Urban households will also be supported with knowledge and skills in home/kitchen gardens. Market linkages are also established with off-takers to enhance food distribution, besides linking producers with bio-fertilizer producers/suppliers to improve soil health for enhanced productivity. The Gender Action Learning methodology (GALS) and the Engaging Men through Accountable Practice (EMAP) methodology are employed to promote gender equality in the communities.

Pathways to Prosperity - Ghana

In this programme we focus on supporting the adoption of sustainable practices and ecosystem management in farming and processing for cocoa and oil palm farmers as well as gold miners as they require far and equal access to relevant technology, inputs, services as well as formalisation and certification support. Our main efforts in this programme are dedicated to developing a service delivery structure that promotes producers access to inputs, services, technology, and markets. We support (young) entrepreneurs to develop a business in service delivery and strengthen capacities of existing service providers to provide better and more inclusive services. This includes developing IT-based platforms to link smallholder farmers who demand services to providers of various services. Additionally this programme supports farmers to gain and maintain access to market information and focus on creating stronger local market opportunities by providing local processing facilities.

Improving access to tech&fin services in mining sector in Ghana

In Ghana, we strengthened local service delivery models to bring to scale responsible practices in the Artisanal Small Scale gold sector. By the end of 2021, we supported 11 service providers that together reached 6,711 ASM-miners. Key services include mercury-free processing technologies, mine planning and mechanization, health and safety management, fuel optimization, mine reclamation and revegetation, and gold exploration and reserve estimation. Several of these services directly contribute to improving the working conditions of the 8,484 miners that work in these mines. Production levels are still low due to the ban imposed on small-scale mining in 2017-2019, followed by the Covid-19 economic downturn, which has affected the mines’ readiness to pay for services and their engagement in the project. In 2022, we will support the established service providers to reach more mines and have sensitization activities with the miners.

Global Expertise Team-Supportive Business Ecosystems (GET)

The Global Expertise Teams (GETs) are cross-regional teams that focus on knowledge development and the linking and learning throughout the network for the four different intervention levels: Good Practices, Supportive Business Ecosystems, Enabling Policy Environment and Market Uptake. They are supported by communities of practitioners organized around commodity value chains like palm oil or or coffee and thematic issues like labour or fair value distribution. This structure is network-wide and goes beyond the specific programmes. The GET SBE had limited implementation capacity in 2021. The appointed leaders developed the strategic plans and identified the team members. Due to Covid-19 travel restrictions all mapping of existing experience, study and meetings to identify the leading issues and questions had to go through digital means. The first versions of the plans were presented for approval in Q3 but the board of directors sent them back to the drawing-room to obtain more focus. Our GET leader of Supportive Business Ecosystems had to limit his leading activities to planning the SBE strategic and annual programming.
