Namibia has the world's largest free-roaming population of the endangered black rhino in its remote and rugged north-west. That means these rhino are in the wild, not restricted to a specific park or reserve. Amazing! The Namibia Nature Foundation is working with local community-based conservancy organisations and Save the Rhino Trust to extend the Rhino Ranger program into an area not covered by regular rhino patrols. The goal is to fund a Rhino Ranger patrol in the field for a full year.

What do women in Namibia and the Navajo Nation have in common? They are part of the 1.4 billion people worldwide (70% of whom are women) who live off the electric grid. Without electricity, businesses must close when the sun goes down, children do not have the light they need to study after dark, and people are cut off from global news and the marketplace. Elephant Energy brings energy to off-grid areas and generates income in rural communities by engaging women as Energy Entrepreneurs.

The overall development objective of the project is a substantially reduced number of food insecure and malnourished people in Namibia. This is to be achieved through a strengthened cross-sectoral institutional framework through which the underlying causes and multi-disciplinary dimensions of poverty, food insecurity and malnutrition are to be identified and addressed through the implementation of well-targeted action by Government and other development partners. A food insecurity and vulnerability information and mapping system will provide data and information, required for effective decision making towards the formulation of appropriate food security policies, development programmes and emergency interventions.
